Having a good year or a bad year - Should it really matter?

So we are nearly coming to the end of 2018. You'll probably find a lot of people asking what do you think of 2018? Your answers would either be your best year, your worst year or just ok.

As for me, I had a couple of highlights to be blessed with along with a couple of lows. But there was one day when I was thinking about the highs and lows that have happened so far during 2018 along with things to look forward to that are bound to the highlights of 2018 and I suddenly thought to myself "Why I am worrying about having a good year or a bad year?"

That was when it comes clear to me on what I should be really be doing; I should take everything as it is, whenever it's good or bad. It all comes and goes yet we learn and experience anything each and every time; making the most of anything that makes me happy and letting go on on the hard times.

So for now on, I'll be taking the year as it is, just by rejoicing whatever I'm blessed with to remind myself to be grateful in life and work on the difficulties that I happened to be experiencing until it worked out for the better.

I admit, I guess that part of this mindset comes from when there was a particular year 2016 when I constantly saw people posting on social media saying that year is the worst with its doom and gloom, much to my chagrin. Don't get me wrong, I do understand and sympathize on how some people have it bad here and there (with me trying my best to help them out) along with the difficulties that have happened that year involving stuff like politics and equality but I guess that I happened to focus on the good that have happened to me during 2016 including Pokemon Sun and Moon, Busted tour and Night Driver album, meet up with my internet friends,  Miitomo and Pokemon Go and it doesn't makes it easier for me to see people saying otherwise when I'm trying to have a good year. Guess with me being autistic, I receive a lot of vibe from negativity. Again, I get that there's no turning a bind eye to what's happening in the world but I say that we should only be informed by them without letting them define that year along with our perspective in life. I guess all of this reminded me to focus on what I'm blessed with. Too often, we get cynical when bad things happen.

But hear me out, I've too been through some rough moments throughout the years. I have to cope with rowdy classrooms at High School, my Guinea Pig Romeo have to be put to sleep, have to put up with rowdy college students, having to go through all the drama from the toxic Mcfly fanbase (especially involving McBusted) and so fourth. But now I have gone through all of this, I am arguably in a much better position in life, trying my best to have a more positive mindset and outlook in life. Of course, I am still going through some difficulties in life but I wouldn't be who I am today if I didn't experienced all of this, growing a lot. I'm trying to be the better person then I have been.

But there is only one thing that allows us on how we define a year; ourselves. Whatever we're going through rough periods in life or facing anything unfavorable in life, we have to deal with them with resilience, take action, allow ourselves to be surrounded by those who provide you positivity and love who will do a lot for you to get through life and focus on getting your life back together. And whenever we're happened to be blessed with something or having the time of your life, we have to make the most of it, using these moments to remind you the good in life, smile that it happened and never take them for granted.

Either way, we learn from both experience. Life isn't always easy but it's good to take the year as it is whenever we're thankful in life, need to let things go, face whatever coming in our way with resilience, being there for others whenever they're at their lowest, very best or cheering them on whenever they have accomplished and something and moving forward with our hopes and dreams.

That said, there are a lot of stuff I'm looking forward to for 2019 including Danny Jones' solo album, Busted's Half Way there tour, Book 3 for Fire Emblem Heroes and the next generation of Pokemon, reminding myself on what is there to look forward to.

Of course, I'll be taking the year as it is whenever I'm making the most of whatever I happened to rejoice and work on whatever difficulty I'm facing. That way, I can live and focus for the moment in the period of my lifetime without worrying on having a good year or a bad year as it's merely a number of days in my lifetime.

Regardless, hope you all have a good year with best wishes for the new year. Be your true self, be humble, be grateful, be happy, be resilient, be kind, be passionate, be awesome.

My Top Video Game Series

I'm a huge fan of videos over the years and got to know many of them whenever I'm playing alone, with my friends or family or watching my brother. There are some that I'm good at including strategy based games like Pokemon or those that I can never quite get used to the game mechanics or just mediocre including Mario Kart and Marvel Vs Capcom but reguardless, I don't need to be good at them as long as I enjoy playing in any way as said by Satotu Iwata "Above all, video games are meant to be just one thing: fun. Fun for everyone". So here are the video games that happens to be my personal picks:

1. Pokemon

Pokemon has always been my main source of gaming from Red to Ultra Moon; catching and raising my Pokemon for my battles to be the very best like no one ever was. I have been shown to become a strong Pokemon Trainer with help from the metagame site Smogon which have given me ideas on the best way to use my Pokemon while still enjoying Pokemon. Also been enjoying watching the Anime and its movies and playing a few side Pokemon games including Battle Revolution (unpopular opinion but I say it's a pretty good game), Pokemon Go and Detective Pikachu.

2. Fire Emblem Heroes

One of the mobile games I've played owned by Nintendo. I've played Fire Emblem Heroes after my friends have played it and got hooked on it since. It helped me to get into the series itself with Fates being my first Fire Emblem game as brought from a friend of mine for my Birthday. I've been going on Fire Emblem Heroes a lot to raise my units (including my Reinhardt going "Magic is everything!") and to take part in seasonal events.

3. Super Smash Bros

The Nintendo crossover fighting game that have helped me to get to know many Nintendo franchises including The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Star Fox. I've been playing the series with my friends and have lots of fun and laughs and I'm hyped to play Ultimate which at this time of writing will be released tomorrow.

4. TomoDachi Life

I've been a fan of creating Miis and this was the game that makes best use of them, adding my friends, family, celebrities and fictional characters onto one island and raising them, often with amusing results. I've been making some musical performances with them using the Music Hall which you can check out here.

5. Miitomo

Miitomo was the first mobile game which helped to open my mind on mobile gaming. Even if Miitomo have been long since shut down, it was great to answer a wide variety of questions, interact with others based on their answers, create some amusing Miifotos and earn some outfits for your Miis.

6. Miitopia

The other game that makes use of Miis, Miitopia allows me to assemble my friends, celebrities, family and fictional characters in an RPG style game with again amusing results. It surprisingly have a really good soundtrack.

7. Mario Kart

Mario Kart was the first game that I played Wi-Fi with my friends. It's always great to have some dumb fun on Mario Kart each time.

8. Project X Zone

A crossover with franchises from Capcom, Namco and Sega (also in Project X Zone 2; Nintendo with Xenoblade Chronicles and Fire Emblem), many of which were obscure to me including Devil May Cry, God Eater, Hack, Resonance of Fates, Sakura Wars and Darkstalkers. I'm hoping to try them out someday (which I have done so for one of them which I'll cover soon).

9. Marvel Vs Capcom

The other crossover fighting game that have helped me to get to know characters from Marvel and Capcom (and Tatsunoko for Tatsunoko Vs Capcom - earning its honorable mention), getting myself hooked on their interactions with each other during their conversations (and in Infinite's case, the story mode) while teaming up the likes of Spiderman and Dante.

10. Ace Attorney

Objection! Ace Attorney is an intriguing visual novel series where you have to claim your defendants innocent as Phoenix Wright as his team. The series contains many cases that gets you hooked each time along with many humorous and emotional moments.

11. Danganronpa

As I've been playing Ace Attorney, this friend of mine who has also been playing Ace Attorney have given me Danganronpa which is also a visual novel which have students being forced to play a killing game. The series have a wide variety of cast that gets me rooting for them including Makoto, Kyoko, Nagito, Gundam, Kokichi and Gonta.

12. God Eater

After gaining an interest from Project X Zone and with the updated remakes released in the west, I thought it'll be my best chance to try God Eater. It's an action series where you have to fight against hostile Aragami monsters for the sake of humanity's future. Along the way, I've found myself getting close to the cast and enjoying the soundtrack throughout.

13. Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing is a relaxing Sims like series where you get close to your animal neighbours, take part in seasonal events and collect fish, bugs and furniture which gets you hooked on. I've been on its community forum where I became very close to my online friends which I'm still close too so I can thank Animal Crossing for that. I've also been enjoying the side series including Pocket Camp, Amiibo Festival (again unpopular opinion but I've actually enjoyed it) and Happy Home.

14. Wario Ware

Warioware contains a series of wacky mircogames where you have to complete them within seconds before moving onto the next one shortly afterwards which gets addictive yet fun.

15. Rhythm Paradise/Heaven

From the same makers as Warioware, it focus on playing the games within the beat of the rhythm. It can be complicated at times but it still enjoyable to play with its soundtrack. Oh, the above image is my photoshop image of one of the most famous rhythm game Ringside with my crush Danny Jones from Mcfly.

16. The Unholy War

An obscure Playstation game from my childhood where you have to choose two nations; The Arcanes or the Tecknos in this strategy based fighting game to fight for their home planet Xsarra, determining the outcome for the Unholy War. I still have memories of it and managed to re-experience it on an emulated version.

17. The Magic School Bus

Also from my childhood, the PC series have helped me to learn a lot about science while having fun. Due to these games, I remember a lot of facts including the planets from the solar system and the different kinds of rock and minerals. I've also been watching the original TV series which makes learning fun.

18. Mother 3

After using Lucas for Super Smash Bros Brawl a lot, I've gained an interest playing the fan translation version of Mother 3 with it being unreleased in the West. It have a series of RPG style battles with an interesting soundtrack, followed by its emotional story. Also been playing Earthbond (aka Mother 2) on the Wii U.

19 . Awesomenauts

This indie game was introduced by a friend of mine. I may have never got into the competitive side of it but I do enjoy some practise matches every now and then, using wacky Awesomenauts. It also have some awesome character themes and some of the best voice lines including Froggy G's "Don't hate the game, hate the player!" and Leon Chameleon "Homicide du Fromage" which is based on my favourite Cartoon Network show Dexter's Laboratory.

20. Mario and Sonic series/Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

Ah yes, I couldn't afford to miss out a mention of two iconic gaming series; Super Mario and Sonic The Hedgehog. They have a wide variety of games that makes them equally iconic including New Super Mario Bros, Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Odyssey for Super Mario and Sonic CD, Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces for Sonic The Hedgehog. They have also set their rivalry asides and compete together for the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic game series, making those two franchises forever timeless and here to stay.

21. To the Moon/Finding Paradise

Both visual novels were made by Kan Gao with To the Moon originally given from a friend of mine, they have their own unique story line with humorous yet bittersweet moments which I can't go into further detail as you have to find out yourself. They both also have a great theme song performed by Laura Shingihara.

22. Jackbox

The Jackbox series have a collection of games that are fun to play with friends and family, each with their unique style including Quiplash, Fibbage, Drawful, Tee Ko, Survive the internet, Fakin it, Earwax, Split the room and Patently Stupid. I can still remember some of the answers we come up with which can be exploited though it's probably better to leave it as that.

23. Dream Daddy

As a member of the LGBTQ community, it's great to have an LGBTQ dating sim visual novel where you play as a Dad, meeting other Daddys you can date. A great LGBTQ reprentation game which Dads dealing with complex issues that you may relate to, bringing you closer to them with along with your ingame daughter Amanda.

24.  Undertale

I first got the know this game from Dan and Phil's gaming channel. Watching their playthrough makes me want to try it out myself. I can happily say that I've stick with the true pacifist path as I've got close to the wacky cast while enjoying the soundtrack. May this fill you with determination.

25.  Golf with your friends

Even if you're not good at golf, it's a great game to have some dumb fun with your friends (though I'm shown to be good at times).

Honorable Mentions:

Ducktales Remastered - Have the best soundtrack for gaming
Soul Calibur - A series of sword fighting with some of them having the option to create your own fighters
Altered Beast - I admit that I can never get past the second level but playing as a guy who gets buff is my kind of thing...who can also transform into animals
My Virtual Gay Boyfriend - A mobile game where I can custom my virtual gay boyfriend
Wii Fit/Wii Sports - I have fond memories playing them with my friends and family while getting fit

Why Zoos and other Animal Attractions are good for you

I've always been an animal lover and from an early age my parents have took me to Chester Zoo. Since then, I've been going there regularly as a member (also have been going to other Zoos and Animal attractions including aquariums and safari parks). As I've been visiting to many good Zoos and other Animal attractions, I have gathered many thoughts on why going on trips to Zoos can be good for you in many ways as followed below:

  • You get to see the animals - We may sometimes find wild animals or watch them on TV but there is no better place to see the animal in person than in the Zoo. They may include your favourites including Lions, Tigers or Elephants or even unusual ones that you may not have seen or heard of before including Bush Dogs, Bongos or Bantengs which makes it your chance to see them in person.

  • Watching the animal helps with your mind - I find that watching the animal in their exhibit helps to reduce any stress or anxiety I may have as my mind is occupied with the animal in front of me. I can watch the animal performing their natural behaviour for hours without having to worry about the world. Too many of us find ourselves occupied with real life news including on TV or social media, many of which can bring us down and lower our perspective in life. So next time you're feeling down with today's news, take a trip to the Zoo. Just by watching the animal doing something amusing, interesting or whenever it happens to be a cute  animals (including baby animals that'll contribute to conservation which will be my next point)  will give you a reason to enjoy life.

  • Zoos helps you to learn about animals including their behaviour and conservation - Without many good Zoos, we wouldn't know about the wonders of the animal kingdom such why do Otters swims, what do Capybaras eat, where do Anteaters live or are Red Pandas are Pandas with the colour red. More importantly however, if we didn't have good Zoos, we would lost so many endangered species threatened with extinction including hunting, habitat destruction or illegal pet trade as said by a quote I've found by Betty White; "People forget the good that Zoos do. If it weren't for Zoos, we would have lost so many species that would be extinct today". Luckily, there are many good Zoos who are doing all they can to raise awareness and education about conservation and helping with the animals to safeguard their numbers for the future while still learning many new things about animals themselves, even if it's not always easy. So by supporting Zoos that helps with conservation, they can help to protect our animals while we can learn on how Zoos are contributing with conservation.

  • You can get into animals - With the first three reasons above, going to Zoos can help you to get into animals as your hobby like with me. You could become an animal lover yourself, spending your time taking photos of animals in the zoo and sharing them on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, watch animal programs, become a Zoologist or raise pets (as your own Zoo - not with wild animals of course!)

  • It's good excuse for exercise and going out for fresh air - I'm sure many of us are always told to go out and have some exercise which makes a trip to the Zoo an excellent excuse to do so as you walk around the Zoo, looking at each exhibits after exhibits in the great outdoors (especially on a nice sunny day).  Even indoor animal based attractions such as aquariums can help since you're standing up looking at aquariums. Since after all, walking is said to be the best exercise and going to Zoos is a fun way to exercise; looking at the animals while staying healthy. Also for me, I go to Chester Zoo for Pokemon Go and it's surprisingly an excellent place to use Pokemon Go with lots of Pokemon and Pokestops (while still seeing the animals of course).

  • They can help you with your social skills - If you're someone who needs help with communication skills like me with autism, then you could bring a friend or family to the Zoo with you. Watching the animal together can be a great conversation topic as you talk about what you have witnessed (like "Oh my god, did you see those Chimpanzees fighting? or "Aren't those Meerkats cute?). That way, you can spend your time talking about the animal with the person, helping with your communication skills. You can also educate them about the animal if you happen to know many facts about them. Alternatively, your recent trip to the Zoo can be your topic to talk about your friends or co workers, making them fascinated on what you saw and makes them what to go to the Zoo themselves.

With those reasons above, they are the reasons why it's good to go to Zoos and other Animal Attractions. Of course, I understand that there are some bad Zoos that only keeps animals for money or failed to meet the standards for the animals' welfare but they should not define Zoos as a whole except themselves. There are still many good Zoos out there that helps with the animals and are worth visiting which will benefit you and your close ones.

So arrange a trip to the Zoo or whichever Animal Attraction which will help you out a lot. I'll end this article with this quote from Katherine Applegate:

"A good Zoo is a large domain. A wild cage. A safe place to be. It has room to roam and humans don't get hurt. A good Zoo is how humans makes amends".
